My dear friend Leanne taught me how to made fabric buttons.
Some people may know about the flat back button phenomena but I was not one of those people.
And since I have learned it has literally taken over TV watching time. It is great!
I am always in need of little presents here and there- and with these I will have some in stock. Always. No waiting on etsy or going to a boutique. But making them myself.
Well.
I am going to pass the secret along to you.
Again some of you may already know about these. If so, sorry for boring you.
If not...
YAYYY....
here you go.
You need:
scissors
glue-don't use hot glue. That wears off. Use E6000 glue- it is stronger and doesn't wear off.
Earring backs- you can buy those at Michael's or Hobby Lobby
flat back buttons- Just go to etsy and search Covered button flat back kits. You will need the kit because it helps you. In future orders you can just order the button flat back. I got 5/8 inch and 3/4 inch. Small and big. Your size is up to you.
This is what they look like. Silver- buttons and flat back
blue- helps you push flat back in
Clear- helps you get the fabric straight.
Scraps of fabric. That is the great thing about these. You DON'T have to buy fabric. You know all that fabric that is leftover from other projects that you don't know what to do with?
Use it for buttons.
Cheap- love it!
Here you go.
Pick what fabric you want to use and section you want to use. You want to make both earrings as similar as possible. So pick a part of the fabric that is replicated in multiple spots.
Take your fabric and the button.
Wrap it around the button and push it in the clear part. Then cut off the extra fabric.
Try to get the fabric as smooth as possible and get out the folds.
Take the flat back and flatten it in the clear part. This will hid the rest of the fabric. You can use the blue tool to push the flat back in place. You should feel it snap.
Then you have your button!!! Enjoy and make gifts!
You just add the backs with the special glue.
And give them to your friends!!
You can make them while watching how I met your mother.. like I do :)!
wear them all around. Its a great addition to a plain outfit.
Oh my word, u r toooo cute & creative!! God sure knew what he was doing when he created you. Love these & love you :)
